COVID vaccinations update
Please be aware that recent NHS letters from mass vaccination sites such a Birmingham are an alternate option to being vaccinated through your GP surgery, not instead of. These have been sent out nationally, not by local NHS services such your GP practice or the Leicester Hospitals.
We are working hard to ensure that all our patients of 80 years of age and over and care home patients are vaccinated before moving onto other age groups. We will continue to contact patients as they become eligible.
You do not have to travel if you do not want to and the centres are designed for patients living within 30-45 minutes of a centre at most so we would recommend that you all are vaccinated closer to home during the pandemic to reduce your risk of catching the virus by using public transport. Please be aware you have to have both vaccinations at the same venue so we are not able to give patients a second vaccination if they have their first elsewhere.

Over 50 with previous COVID infection or symptoms? You could be eligible to join the PRINCIPLE trial and help the fight against
To minimise the risk of infection all consultations are now ‘triaged’ meaning you will speak to the GP over the phone before getting a face to face appointment if deemed appropriate but lots of medical concerns can be easily dealt with over the phone.
We would therefore ask you NOT to visit the surgery unless entirely necessary. This includes ordering your medications or collecting prescriptions. In terms or ordering your medication we would advise you to use the online function if possible. We do have a prescription box just at the entrance before you enter the main building to prevent you contracting the condition. For prescriptions we will happily send these to your local chemist if you give us the details of your preference. We are unable to give out two months of medication as this would cause immense pressure on medication and lead to shortages.

Extended Access appointments
We are increasing the number of appointments available for you to see a GP in the early mornings, evenings or at weekends across West Leicestershire.
Depending on your individual circumstances and symptoms, we may offer you an ‘extended access’ appointment. Please note however, that these appointments will not be in your usual GP practice and may not be with one of your usual GPs or nurses.
Depending on the reason for your appointment, and if you are in agreement, it may be suitable for you to see an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, instead of a GP.
The clinician you see will be able to access relevant sections of your medical notes and will communicate what has happened during your appointment back to your usual GP practice.
These appointments will be available at the following locations:
Loughborough Urgent Care Centre at Loughborough Community Hospital
Coalville Community Hospital
Centre Surgery, Hinckley
If you would like to know more please speak to a member of practice staff.
